Novel monitoring system for tele-health applications

An innovative Tele-Health Embedded Monitoring System (THEMS) collects physiological data remotely by non-invasive means and informs the service provider for further diagnostics.

An Israeli SME involved in medical electronic instrumentation has developed remote health monitoring equipment that can be easily embedded into chairs and beds. The THEMS uses an array of sensors for monitoring different physiological signals, including ECG, blood pressure trends as well as respiration, snoring and convulsing.

Having collected physiological data, the system transfers them through a mobile phone to a service provider for further diagnosis, decision making for disease management and response. Moreover, it allows the service provider to turn it on/off, set it on for emergency monitoring and activate high/low alarm modes according to subject's needs. Potential subjects are children or adults suffering from seizures, sleep apnoea, diabetes and heart failure.

The THEMS technology has already been applied in polygraphy, security and monitoring of vital signs in the most effective, convenient and safe way. It has been successfully tested for Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) and safety and it has also been found compliant to IEC601 international regulatory standards. The THEMS is non-invasive, user-friendly, inexpensive, allowing continuous monitoring without any requirements on disposable electrodes.

This innovative system is capable of turning a home chair or bed into a remote, wireless, non-obtrusive diagnostic tool. A producer or user of medical equipment is sought for further collaboration, a technical cooperation or a commercial agreement.
