What could better illustrate the ambition, the innovation capabilities, the modernism and the attractiveness of European Research in the area of Network and Communications, than the simultaneous launch of 46 projects in the first quarter of 2008, under the 7th Framework Programme (FP7), for a total EC contribution of 200 millions Euros?
This launch is the fruit of an intense collaboration between leading European industry, universities, research institutes, European Technology Platforms, member states and the European Commission. From the definition of the first FP7 Work-programme 2007-2008, down to the first Call for proposals, to the evaluation, negotiation and contract signature, it has been a long process for everybody. We can look forward with pride to the promises that these projects will deliver, in the areas of Converged and Optical Networks, Radio Access and Spectrum, and Future Internet Technologies.
The objective of this publication is to provide an integrated overview of the FP7 Future Networks Project Portfolio. The book contains summaries of each of the 46 projects that were selected under call 1 of FP7-ICT Challenge 1, Objective 1.1: the Network of the Future. Each project fact-sheet contains the base data about the project; strategic objectives, technical approach, key issues and expected impact.
It will also contain a portfolio analysis and various statistical data about the selected projects, as well as the project clustering proposal for FP7 under 3 main axes: Future Internet Technologies, Radio Access and Spectrum, and Converged and Optical Networks.
