| Introduction Since 1989, the European Union and its Commission have focused their attention to European aeronautics in view of the need for industrial competitiveness, growth and employment, sustainable mobility, safety and the protection of the environment. The seven aeronautical research establishments, constituted as AEREA, have in the past been requested by the Commission to assist in formulating policies and actions aimed at aeronautical research, technology development and demonstration. In view of the preparation of the next Framework programme, AEREA again offers its views on the priorities for themes in this 5th Programme. This report is based on extensive discussions within AEREA and on consultations with the European aeronautical industry (AECMA and IMG3), Eurocontrol and the Joint Aviation Authorities. The objective of the report is to identify the key issues that need attention in European co-operation and support on European level. AEREA expects that the report will be of help in the continuation and strengthening of the good relationship between the Commission and AEREA. |
