This website has been prepared to disseminate the objectives and main achievements of research supported by the European Commission on «epidemiology and retrospective dosimetry». It focuses on research carried out in the 4th and 5th Framework Programmes but also addresses earlier research.
The website will appeal to those with an interest in, or responsibility for, epidemiology and retrospective dosimetry. The projects described encompass the ?state of the art? in this area together with progress that can be expected within the next few years. Particular attention is given to the development of new and improved tools and methods for a safe use of ionising radiation in industry, medicine and research. The purpose is to reduce health risks due to radiation exposures by means of radio-epidemiological studies on populations with protracted low-dose-rate exposures.
The website is divided into two distinct parts. The first provides a summary of Commission supported research over the past decade, with particular attention given to the objectives and achievements (or expected achievements) of the 4th and 5th Framework Programmes. Remaining problems or challenges are identified and how these may be addressed by future research. The second part contains short summaries of the objectives and achievements (or expected achievements) of each of the supported projects. |
