Nuclear in a changing world

Brussels, 14-15 October 1998

The seminar "Nuclear in a Changing World" held in Brussels on 14-15 October 1998 with the purpose to:

• assess the future perspectives of nuclear energy and to identify its potential contribution to mitigating global climate change
• identify the impediments to this potential being realised, and
• identify where future research could be directed to overcome these impediments.

The seminar proceedings are structured in two volumes:

Volume 1 contains the presentations made in the plenary and parallel sessions, as well as the conclusions of the discussions made by the sessions' chairpersons.

Volume 2 presents the detailed background assessment reports, i.e. reports on global climate change, social acceptability of nuclear power, economic sustainability of nuclear power, nuclear waste management, reactor safety, nuclear power and non-proliferation, nuclear scenarios and related policy issues, and technological developments in nuclear power.
