The EU's Seventh Framework Programme for research and development (FP7) includes collaborative projects and networks of excellence. During their initial negotiation with the Commission, these projects may reserve a portion of their budgets for specific tasks to be carried out by a new beneficiary (or beneficiaries), who will join the consortium at a later date. These new beneficiaries will be selected from proposals submitted in response to a "competitive call".
For organisations interested in joining ongoing FP7 projects, the competitive call announcement will be published on CORDIS, with a link to the website of the project. The project consortium will publish all necessary documentation and background information on their website.
Project acronym: FI-WARE
Project grant agreement number: 285248
Project Full name: FI-WARE: Future Internet Core Platform
The FI-WARE project, currently active in the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Community for research and technological development, announces its First Open Call for new project partners.
FI-WARE will deliver a novel service infrastructure, building upon elements (called Generic Enablers – GEs) which offer reusable and commonly shared functions making it easier to develop Future Internet Applications in multiple sectors. This infrastructure will bring significant and quantifiable improvements in the performance, reliability and production costs linked to Internet Applications – building a true foundation for the Future Internet.
FI-WARE is the cornerstone of the Future Internet PPP (FI-PPP) program, a joint action by European Industry and the European Commission.
The FI-WARE project will develop open specifications of FI-WARE GEs, together with a reference implementation of each GE for testing. Some of these open specifications will be submitted for standardization. FI-WARE aims to draw upon results already achieved through earlier research projects. It will further develop them and integrate them.
FI-WARE’s First Open Call will allow the incorporation of new partners that can contribute or develop the following GEs for their integration as part of FI-WARE. They also need to provide support to FI-PPP use case projects validating conceptual prototypes developed on top of FI-WARE.
IPRs will be managed according to the corresponding Grant Agreement, Consortium Agreement and Collaboration Agreement, which the new partners shall adhere to. In particular, specifications of GEs must be publicly available on the FI-WARE’s website/wiki and be royalty-free. Contributed implementations of these GEs should be licensed free of charge to projects funded under the FI-PPP program and commercialized under FRAND conditions.
Submitters to this Open Call should be legal entities that are established in an EU Member State, or FP7 Associated State.
Please note that activities to be carried out by the new partners will be partly funded, in alignment with the funding schema defined for research activities by the European Commission.
Full information, including details about expected functionality to be covered by the above mentioned GEs, is available on http://www.fi-ware.eu/open-call/

Project acronym: BonFIRE
Project contract number: 257386
Project Full name: Building service testbeds for Future Internet Research and Experimentation
Objectives of the Call: The BonFIRE project seeks to incorporate A SET OF EXPERIMENTS TO RUN TESTS ON ITS MULTI-SITE CLOUD FACILITY and a also a CLOUD PROVIDER TO PARTICIPATE AS ADDITIONAL CLOUD SITE IN THE ‘BonFIRE MULTI-CLOUD ’ (Proof of Concept).
The BonFIRE project is designing, building and operating a multi-site cloud-based FIRE facility to support research across applications, services and systems targeting in particular but not exclusively the research community on Internet of Services.
The BonFIRE vision is to give researchers in these areas access to a distributed cloud facility which supports experimentation of their systems and applications and the evaluation of cross-cutting aspects. We expect that this will enable innovative scenarios from the services-based distributed computing research community to be tested. Additionally, we seek a Cloud Provider to become a BonFIRE site.
The call is structured in 2 topics as follows;
[Topic a)] BonFIRE has defined three different scenarios relevant for experiments targeting this open call where testing can be performed under different conditions:
The project will support the researchers to set up and run their experiments on BonFIRE. We will also provide appropriate methods for describing, deploying, managing, executing and measuring experiments in our distributed cloud infrastructure.
Experiments shall propose innovative usage scenarios exploiting the multiple dimensions and scale of the facility. These activities should exhibit a degree of innovation in the use of the facility, including system level experiments, making a comprehensive use of several components of the facility, potential impact on users, etc.
[Topic b)] The project also seeks a Cloud provider to become a BonFIRE federated site and to enable the deployment of experiments.
The profile of the company we are looking to engage with is a private/public cloud infrastructure provider with access to their own platform and the ability to support the creation of a new BonFIRE site on its infrastructure. The new provider will give access to their platform via programmable APIs and web-based interfaces and have enough capacity to host a lab-like project environment.
Call open: The call will be open for submissions from 1st February 2012
Deadline: The call closes on 7th March 2012 at 17h00 (Brussels time)

The following project (“Low Input Breeds”), currently active in the Seventh Framework programme of the Euroepan Community for research, technological development and demonstration activities contributing to the creation of the European research area and to innovation, requires the participation of 3 new project partners to carry out specific tasks within the project that will be further on described.
Project contract number: 222623
Project acronym: LowInputBreeds
Project full name: Development of integrated livestock breeding and management strategies to improve animal health, product quality and performance in European organic and “low input” milk, meat and egg production
Instrument type: Large collaborative project
Summary of tasks:
The call is to recruit partners to collaborate in the dairy cattle sub-project (SP1, Improving “Low Input” dairy cattle) of the Low Input Breeds project. The main objective of this sub-project is to simulate the day by day operations in a dairy cattle herd. For the day by day operations in the herd, different sizes and types of operations within herds, i.e. breeding strategies, age structures and culling decisions have to be considered following probabilities of occurrence. The individual variability of a cow will be simulated for a multitude of traits (production, health, growth, type traits, fertility, survival, feed intake). Based on daily phenotypic values, input and output in terms of energy efficiency will be determined for different low input production systems.
Three additional ICPC (International Cooperation Partner Countries) partners from the Mediterranean, North Eastern Europe, Northern Africa and Middle East regions are being recruited to:
1. support the project with substantial data of interest:
2. provide detailed information related to breeding strategies (outline of the breeding program);
3. provide detailed information about herd parameters (herd size, culling rates within herds, culling strategies).
The main decision for recruiting partners will be based on data quantity and data quality.
Expected duration of participation in the project: from 01/11/2010 to 29/02/2012
Estimated costs and funding for each of the 3 partners
Research costs: € 40-60000 (supported by EU funding of 75 - 50%)
