Three new strategic reports on Computing available in preparation of Horizon 2020 :

The report "A Strategy for Research and Innovation through High-Performance Computing" describes the required innovation breakthroughs for putting high-end computing resources in the everyday business loop of companies. The report addresses the huge spectrum of industrial and societal applications (automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, energy, transport, healthcare and medicine, etc ...) that stand to benefit from the availability of high-performance computing hardware at low price points. Commercial HPC providers or low-cost in-house systems are visible alternatives to top supercomputer installations for the big majority of small and medium innovative companies.

The report "Computing Systems : Research Challenges Ahead" analyses the relevant societal, business and applications trends as well as the research challenges in the broader area of Computing from a technology point of view. An emerging "computing continuum" (same key technologies and players across all computing segments: embedded, mobile, desktops, servers, datacenters, clouds, supercomputers) is the key structural change that must be addressed by the Horizon 2020 Next-Generation Computing inititative.

The report "Technology-Scalable Datacenters" discusses the specific research and technology challenges for a European ecosystem of datacenter innovation. The report has been developed with key European companies covering all layers of datacenter technology (ST, ARM, Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, Bull, SAP).
