TIA 2009 - 8th International Conference on Terminology and Artificial Intelligence

The 2009 TIA Conference will focus mainly on terms and terminological systems. A number of semantic relations between terms may be identified, but the linguistic nature of terms and of the connections between them raises problems in representation and creating relations. Issues related to these topics will be discussed throughout the conference, among many others, such as the representation of terms and semantic or conceptual relations in multilingual applications and in specific types of data structures (ontologies, thesauri, etc.), as well as the comparative studies of terminologies from different languages.

CVMP 2009 - The 6th European Conference on Visual Media Production: Focuses on Future of Imaging and graphics

CIKM 2009 - The 18th ACM Conference on Information and Knowledge Management

TSA'09 - 1st International CIKM Workshop on Topic-Sentiment Analysis for Mass Opinion Measurement.
This workshop aim is that of bringing together researchers in computer science and social sciences who are interested in developing and using topic-sentiment analysis methods to measure mass opinion, and to encourage communications between the research community and industry practitioners as well.
PAVLAD'09 - First International Workshop on Privacy and Anonymity for Very Large Datasets
The workshop will gather researchers in the areas of data privacy and anonymization together with researchers in the area of high performance and very large data volumes management. The intention is that of gathering recent advances in data privacy and anonymization, as well as in high performance and data management.

ISWC 2009 - The 8 th International Semantic Web Conference

ISWC is the major international forum where the latest research results and technical innovations on all aspects of Semantic Web are presented. The event was sponsored by the FP6 projects: NeOn and X-Media , as well as by the FP7 project LarKC .

Tutorial at ISWC 2009:

- LarKC Second Early Adopters Tutorial
The aim of this tutorial was to enable participants to get access to early research results and technologies from the LarKC project. It was based on a similar tutorial at the European Semantic Web Conference (ESWC09), and ensured that also the US-based community had access to the research results from the LarKC project.

- Ontology Engineering: the NeOn Methodology through the NeOn Toolkit
This tutorial targeted ontology modelers and engineers. It provided guidance for the development of ontologies with respect to the complete ontology lifecycle. Fundamental principles and best practices in ontology development using the NeOn Methodology for building ontology networks was illustrated.

- Multimedia Semantics: Metadata, Analysis and Interaction
This tutorial was designed for practitioners, researchers and PhD students who work in creating, searching and presenting multimedia content for exchanging and sharing over the Web. The tutorial included lectures, use cases and demonstrations. It showcased the latest results from the FP6 project K-Space Network of Excellence.

3D Media Workshop - Workshop on 3D Media, Applications and Devices
Berlin, Germany
This workshop provided an international forum to discuss and give guidance to future research, standardisation and development activities of 3D. It brought together production and post production companies, multimedia content providers, broadcast operators, regulators, manufacturers and R&D organizations. Topics presented and discussed covered the complete chain of 3D production to 3D displays for 3D cinema, (mobile) 3DTV, 3D games, and other immersive applications around 3D content. The 3D workshop was enriched by a demonstration/exhibition area for research and commercial exhibitors. This workshop was organised by the FP6 Project 3DTV Network of Excellence .

IASA 2009 - The 40th Annual Conference of the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives

The theme of this year's conference was: Towards a new kind of archive? The digital philosophy in audiovisual archives. When IASA was founded 40 years ago few could imagine the realities with which today's audiovisual archives are confronted. As we approach the end of the first decade of the 21st century, the digital age for archives, libraries and museums is not an option, but a reality. Huge digitisation projects have been or are being implemented while at the same time the production and distribution of the new content is mostly digital. The ICT project WeKnowIt presented the paper: WeKnowIt - Emerging, Collective Intelligence for personal, organisational and social use , on the last day of the conference - Session 12.

IBC 2009 - The content creation management delivery experience

IBC is the leading international forum for the electronic media industry. This year's edition of the IBC offered to its participants two tracks: a conference and an exhibition. The IBC2009 conference gathered in the same place business and creative leaders alongside the latest in technical research. The programme approached revolutionary technologies, economical challenges and emerging business models and strategies. The exhibition set the scene for networking, demonstrations coming from developers and potential new business partnerships and included the presence of FP6 project SALERO .

ICSD 2009 - The 2nd International Conference on Digital Libraries and the Semantic Web 2009
Trento, Italy
The first ICSD was organized in 2007 by the Indian Statistical Institute in Bangalore. The great interest in the conference showed the need to create a communicaiton area between the two communities. The goal is to facilitate the creation of digital library application which could be brickstones of the semantic web. The ICSD 2009 was sponsored by the FP7 ICT project OKKAM .

I-Semantics 2009 - The 5th International Conference on Semantic Systems
Graz, Austria
I-Semantics 2009 offered a forum of exchange for innovative businesses and European research institutions and companies that concentrate on semantic technologies. The special focus this year was on "Semantic Web & Semantic Social Software - Pragmatic Aspects for Corporations, Communities and Individuals" .
I-Semantics 2009 was the host of this year's Pragmatic Web Conference , and was complemented by I-KNOW , the International Conference on Knowledge Management. This setup aimed to reflect the increasing importance and convergence of knowledge management and semantic systems.
The FP6 project SALERO was represented with the paper: SALERO Intelligent Media Annotation & Search .

CKCaR'09 - The first International Workshop on Collective Knowledge Capturing and Representation
Redondo Beach, California, USA
The CKCaR'09 workshop created the opportunity for discussions and networking between researchers and practitioners on the theme of knowledge capturing and representation on the massive scale. Among the main topics of the event, there where also included methods of extracting and measuring the quality of the Collective Knowledge, analysing and processing of mass data, as well as that of modelling and handling inconsistencies in Collective Knowledge. The workshop had the support of FP7 project WeKnowIt .

Summer School on Multimedia Semantics (SSMS '09) - Managing and Modelling of Multimedia and User Generated Content in Web 3.0

The SSMS '09 was organized under the support of the SMaRT (Semantic Multimedia Research and Technology) society. The event used lectures, discussions, interactions, demonstrations and panels to approach issues concerning multimedia semantics and applications based on multimedia understanding. At this fourth edition of the Summer School, there took part leading researchers and practitioners, as well as postgraduate students who seek to broaden their knowledge on these topics. The projects SALERO , WeKnowIt and X-Media where among the sponsors.

IJCAI 2009 - The Twenty-first International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence

SSSW09 - The Seventh Summer School on Onthological Engineering and the Semantic Web
Cercedilla, Spain
This Summer School on Ontological Engineering and the Semantic Web intended to provide a stimulating environment, combining both formal and practical sessions with social interaction. It gave participants the occasion of interacting with lead researchers in the field and complementing their experience and knowledge with theoretical, practical and collaboration skills for developing Ontologies and Semantic Web applications. International THESEUS Symposium - Technologies for the Internet of Services

The International THESEUS Symposium aimed to help projects on the Internet of the Future collaborate. The program was split into two parts, each covering one whole day. The first one focused on strategies for developing future technologies and applications for the Internet, while the second one elaborated on technology hot spots in the development of the Internet of the Future.

SSAIE 2009 Summer School - The Service and Software Architectures, Infrastructures and Engineering Summer School
Crete, Greece
FP7 project PlugIt was represented at the 2009 SSAIE Summer School through the presentation with the title 'Business & IT-Alignment: A model-based approach for the IT-Socket', which took place on the second day of the workshop. The SSAIE Summer School brought together international experts on software and services, graduate students, young researchers and professionals from leading academic, research and industrial organizations across Europe and around the world.

3AMIGAS 2009 - Workshop on 3D Advanced Media in Gaming and Simulation

TDWI 2009 - The 9th European TDWI (The Data Warehousing Institute) Conference

ESWC 2009 - The 6 th European Semantic Web Conference
Heraklion, Crete, Greece
The conference presented the latest results in research and applications of Semantic Web technologies. ESWC2009 also featured a tutorial program, system descriptions and demos, a posters track, a PhD Symposium and a number of collocated workshops. The event was supported by the FP6 projects MUSING , NeOn , SUPER and X-MEDIA , and by the FP7 project ACTIVE , and LarKC , and NoTube .
Workshop held as part of ESWC 2009:
- IRMLES2009 - Workshop on Inductive Reasoning and Machine Learning on the Semantic Web.
The workshop is meant ot be a forum for scientific exchange amongst researchers interested in an interdisciplinary research on the intersection of the Semantic Web with Knowledge Discovery and Machine Learning fields.
- SemWiki2009 - The 4th Workshop on Semantic Wikis - The Semantic Wiki Web
The workshop will analyse the way that interactions within a semantic wiki between humans and between humans and machines can lead to sharing of useful knowledge for both parties. The event will take place under the financial support of FP7 project KIWI.

RUSHES Spring School

CeBIT 2009 - Discover a world of ICT opportunity

CeBIT offers an international platform for comparing notes on current industry trends, networking, and product presentations.
- The IST FP6 Project RUSHES is presenting its first fully integrated prototype demonstrator at CeBIT 2009 (Hall 9, stand A30). Dr. Oliver Schreer, RUSHES Project coordinator will give a talk 'RUSHES: Multimedia-Search of audio-visual content' (in the 'Future Talk' , Hall 9).

FP7 ICT Proposers Day 2009
Budapest, Hungary
The Proposers' Day 2009 followed the ICT 2008 event in Lyon, where the 2009-2010 work programme was presented and where networking activities started. The Proposer's Day, organised by The European Commission's Information Society and Media Directorate-General in cooperation with the Hungarian National Office for Research and Technology attracted more than 1500 people from all over Europe and beyond. The event helped researchers, interested in the upcoming calls for proposals of the FP7 ICT Theme, to find potential partners.

AXMEDIS 2008 – The 4th International Conference on Automated Solutins for Cross Media Content and Multi-channel Distribution

ISWC 2008 – The 7 th International Semantic Web Conference
Karlsruhe, Germany
ISWC is a major international forum where visionary and state-of-the-art research of all aspects of the Semantic Web is presented. To foster the exchange of ideas and collaboration, ISWC brought together researchers in relevant disciplines such as artificial intelligence, databases, social networks, distributed computing, web engineering, information systems, natural language processing, and human-computer interaction. ISWC 2008 included a Research track, Semantic Web In Use track, a poster and demonstration track, a doctoral consortium, and the Semantic Web Challenge. The event was sponsored by the IST projects NeOn , Super and X-Media .

This conference aimed to give an European-wide view of the present and future synergies between criminal justice and ICT technologies, by bringing together experiences, best practices and perspective activities of judicial and technological actors. ESTC2008 - The 2 nd European Semantic Technology Conference

Reasoning Web 2008 – The fourth REWERSE Summer School

This REWERSE event focused on the actual use of Semantic Web rule languages in the Reasoning on the Web application fields such as Bioinformatics, Web Services, Multimedia, and Natural Language Processing. It pointed out which Semantic Web ideas and techniques have actually been adopted so far, which were not (and why), and which application needs are still waiting to be tackled with semantic techniques. NEM General Assembly - The 6th General Assembly of the NEM Initiative

The main objective of the Networked and Electronic Media Technology Platform (NEM) was to foster the development and introduction of novel audiovisual and multimedia broadband services and applications to benefit European citizens and enterprises. This federated event provided an opportunity for both researchers and practitioners to meet and understand recent developments in ubiquitous computing, interacting with colleagues in adjoining related fields. Swiss ICT Summit - European R&D and Innovation for Human-Centric ICT

Information and Communication Technologies are becoming pervasive in different forms, influencing day-to-day life of all citizens. ICT are oriented more towards the needs of the users, and the ease of usage in accessing the information through different media (e.g. TV/radio, digital libraries, push technologies, automatic robotic activities through learning etc.). This international partnering meeting facilitated the setup of FP7 project consortia ( ICT Call 3), and offered dissemination and networking activities for the topic: Knowledge Interfacing Applications ( ICT Challenge 4).

This Workshop was organised in cooperation with the European Commission. The event brought together the technical, administrative and financial representatives of the various national initiatives, which have been established recently in some European countries to support research and technical development in the area of audio-visual content processing, indexing and searching for the next generation Internet using semantic technologies, and which may lead to an internet-based knowledge infrastructure. The objective of this workshop was to provide a platform for mutual information and exchange between these initiatives, the European Commission and the participants.   • GameTools exhibited the computer graphics libraries that play a key role in providing computer games and other high-end 3D applications with the visual quality crucial for commercial success. The third GameTool Newsletter ( 238KB ).

3DTV-Conference - The true vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video

Creating exact 3D moving images as ghost-like replicas of 3D objects has been an ultimate goal in video science. Capturing 3D scenery, processing the captured data for transmission, and displaying the result for 3D viewing are the main functional components. These components encompass a wide range of disciplines: imaging and computer graphics, signal processing, telecommunications, electronics, optics and physics are needed.
The objective of the 3DTV-CON was to bring together researchers and developers from academia and industry with diverse experience and activity in distinct, yet complementary, areas so that full scale 3D video capabilities are seamlessly integrated.

CER 2005 - The 2 nd Communicating European Research Conference
