International Cooperation

Collaboration with Australia

An EC Science & Technology Agreement was signed with Australia in 1994. An amendment to this agreement was signed in August 1999 and entered into force in December 1999.

Following a recent event (FEAST) in Canberra, discussions with the Australian government have lead to improved support for Australian researchers to forge links with their colleagues in the IST Programme. The report of a recent visit of a Commission Delegation to Australia, 10-21 November 2003, provides details.

The report presents impressions gained from a mission to Australia at the invitation of the Forum for European Australian Science and Technology co-operation (FEAST) and the EC Delegation in Australia, as well as the outcomes of discussions with government officials and researchers in Canberra, Sydney, and Melbourne. The primary reason for the visit was to attend the Joint Science & Technology Consultative Committee (JSTCC) hosted by the Australian Department of Education Science and Training. The JSTCC coincided with the second major international conference hosted by FEAST at which all participating EC officials were keynote speakers and participants in workshops. A series of targeted bilateral meetings with various institutions and research centres were arranged for all members of the group. More... ( 51KB).
