ICT Contribution to the Green Cars PPP
Overview
Under the Green Cars Initiative, the topics include research on trucks, internal combustion engines, bio-methane use, and logistics. However a main focus is on the electrification of mobility and road transport.
Beyond providing loans through the European Investment Bank, the PPP European Green Cars Initiative is making available a total of one billion Euro for R&D through joint funding programmes of the European Commission, the industry and the member states. These financial support measures will be supplemented by demand-side measures, involving regulatory action by Member States and the EU, such as the reduction of car registration taxes on low CO2 cars to stimulate car purchase by citizens. Part of the effort will be supported by the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) Work Programme.
The first call for proposals dedicated to ICT for the Fully Electric Vehicle, with a total budget of 20 Million Euro was launched in July 2009 and evaluated in December 2009. The first projects including six Small and medium scale focused research projects (STREPs) and one Coordination Action (CA) will start working between 1 May and 1 September 2010.
The second call on ICT for the Fully Electric Vehicle will be open in late July 2010 and close in early December 2010, with a budget of 30 Million Euro. Two additional calls with budget of 30 and 40 Million Euro will be launched in 2011 and 2012.
