Study on 'Assessing the benefits of Social Networks on Organizations' (SEA-SoNS): 1st Workshop, DG INFSO, BU25 0/S9, Brussels, Belgium
This workshop belongs to the 1st phase of this study assigned to JRC-IPTS, which results will be presented in the DAA2012.
The purpose of this workshop is to bring together experts in the domain of SN who will contribute to the identification of more stakeholders that need to get involved and to the better understanding of the socio-economic impact and the challenges of social networking platforms from EU perspective .
In the workshop were invited people from industries that use SN to improve their competitiveness, people from public administration which use SN for the provision of services to citizens, people from SN (Europeans and Facebook), consultants on how to use SN, people from enterprise social network platforms, people that built platforms as mean of communication and collaboration to solve societal problems. It will take place on 20 March, in BU25 0/S9, starting at 10:00.

Fascinate has won "The Engineer Award 2011" in the category "Consumer Technology. The project has created an interactive video system bound to transform the way we experience live television. The system allows consumers to view and navigate around an ultra-high-resolution video panorama showing a live event, with the accompanying audio automatically changing to match the selected view.

International industry workshop "The future of 3D media" hosted by HHI in Berlin, Germany.

On November 13, 2011, the EC-FP7 project SkyMedia will carry out a technological pre-test during the 25th Marathon of Turin, Italy. This year marathon (www.turinmarathon.it) is indeed special as it falls within the celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy, and will therefore attract media attention. The test will focus on a set of key technologies in the immersive and interactive entertainment media field. These include: the use of live 3D processing, sensors on runners, mobile applications, interactive digital signage, and video capture from the sky using an innovative hybrid metaplane concept. These tests will be instrumental and propedeutic to prepare for the final project demonstration planned at the Turin Marathon 2012 race, which will be held in November 2012 in Turin. The purpose is to enrich the experience of amateur runners, audience and VIP users, who will be empowered to modify the live aggregated video using the interactive touchscreen application. As a further peculiar technology to be demonstrated at the final demonstration event, immaterial fogscreens will be deployed allowing a truly immersive and interactive experience and corroborating the set of deployed SkyMedia technology.
The SkyMedia project (www.ict-skymedia.eu), is carried out by 7 European SMEs and one large industrial company, and co-funded by Networked Media Systems.

On 9th February 2011, the European Commission presented a Green Paper which proposes major changes to EU research and innovation funding to make participation easier, increase scientific and economic impact and provide better value for money. The changes, to be introduced in the next EU budget after 2013, would bring together the current Framework Programme for research, the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology. Citizen Media Demo Event
To discover the state of the art in user centric design of social media applications running on different living labs across Europe (Cologne, Engerwitzdorf and Oslo). During a life demo event each visitor can try out numerous applications and proof-of concepts created within a large European FP6 research project called CITIZEN MEDIA. In this project new ways have been investigated on how to exploit the huge amount of user-generated content in innovative ways to support people in their daily lives and how technology will enable social change to strongly involve users for co-creating networked applications.
