On 15 April, the Networking and Exhibition calls for the ICT2010 event closed. The Commission is delighted to have received so many contributions and as both calls have been oversubscribed, no further extensions have been scheduled. Thank you for helping us shape ICT2010!


YOUNG RESEARCHERS:
Following the success of the ICT-2008 experience, the ICT-2010 welcomes young researchers to attend the event
either as reporters of the main sessions, exhibition "watchers", web radio animators and interviewers of the VIPs.
To apply, you are requested to fill in a form that can be obtained by contacting Tiziana.Arcarese@ec.europa.eubefore June 7th
Criteria for selection are:
• Be involved in an FP7 ICT project that will be running at the time of ICT 2010
• Be a PhD student, postdoctoral student, researcher
• Max age: 32 years old
• Have very good drafting skills in English
• Express your motivation and interest

The NEM Summit is an annual Conference and Exhibition annually organised by the NEM Initiative under the aegis of the European Commission (DG Information Society and Media).

The event, both for the conference and exhibition parts, addresses ICT at large and more precisely topics related to networked and electronic media such as:
• Media-related applications and business models
• Content creation
• Networking and delivery infrastructure
• Content search and media presentation
• Technology drivers and enabling technologies
Registration is open. You can take advantage of early bird fees until July 31: register now for 320 euros excl. VAT

The NEM Summit Call for Exhibition is open. The deadline for submission has been extended till June 30th!
R&D projects funded under the FP6 / FP7 programmes of the European Commission (or other related programmes), addressing network and electronic media technologies and ICT at large are offered the opportunity to exhibit free of charge at the 2010 NEM Summit.

bloc-project.jpgThe European R&D project MobiThin started on January 2008. It gathers IBBT, IMEC, NEC, Deutsche Telekom, Prologue, Institut Telecom and JCP-Consult. Its industry specification group that are now formally approved by ETSI has now produced and finalized its first specifications:
- "Mobile Thin Client (MTC); Use Cases and Requirements"
- "Mobile Thin Client (MTC); Architecture"
The group has also extended its scope to apply their specifications to thin
client in general.
A new work item has been started on interface specification for mobile thin client; the work has been launched during MTC#4 meeting hold on on May 6, 2010 in Sophia Antipolis and is expected to be finalised at the end of 2010.

This clearly shows that integrating TV, internet and mobile phone for a richer multimedia experience is a very hot topic indeed. To quote Ms. Neelie Kroes, European Commissioner for Digital Agenda: “By bringing technologies and stakeholders together, working on a better future is possible.”

The date of the NEM summit is October 13-15, has been scheduled to coincide with the launch of the FP7 ICT Work Programme 2011-2012, which contains a new series of call for proposals addressing NEMrelated R&D topics. It will be a last rendezvous before the Future Internet Public Private Partnership call deadline. The NEM summit will offer the perfect opportunity to meet partners and make final proposal preparations. Submit your paper here.

This workshop aims at presenting a representative sample of research work towards the creation of surreal media and realistic 3D virtual environments in which virtual humans can interact remotely. bloc-community-2.jpgThe Commission adopted a Communication proposing a "Digital Agenda for Europe" on May 19, 2010. It is the first of seven flagship initiatives under the "Europe 2020 Strategy" for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth.

The "Digital Agenda for Europe" outlines seven priority areas for action: creating a digital Single Market, greater interoperability, boosting internet trust and security, much faster internet access, more investment in research and development, enhancing digital literacy skills and inclusion, and applying information and communications technologies to address challenges facing society like climate change and the ageing population.
