bloc-project.jpgResults of Call 7, Objectives 1.5 – Facts and figures. The evaluation of Objective 1.5 of the 7th ICT Call was completed and the selected proposals are currently in the negotiation process. The Call addressed the areas of Digital Media Delivery Platforms, End-to-end Immersive and Interactive Media Technologies and Multimedia Search, through Integrating projects (IPs), Small and medium scale focused research projects (STREPs) and Coordination and Support Actions (CSAs). 130 proposals were received for this objective. The total grant requested was 433 M€, more than 6 times the available recommended grant of 70 M€! Following the evaluation, 20 proposals (5 IPs, 10 STREPs and 5 CSAs) were finally retained for negotiation. The selected proposals cover the areas addressed by the work programme in a balanced way, and are complementary with the current portfolio. The 5 CSAs will provide support to the current constituency but also include new stakeholders. In terms of participation in the retained proposals for negotiations, Industry leads with 59% (31.7% large industry and 27.3% SMEs), followed by 25.5% academia and 15.5% Research Centres. When the negotiation process is completed, we will present the grant-awarded projects in this newsletter and on our website. So, stay tuned!

bloc-community-2.jpgFuture EU research and innovation funding: broad support for Commission's consultation on Common Strategic Framework for future EU research and innovation funding.

Researchers and entrepreneurs across the EU showed appreciation for the Commission's Common Strategic Framework (CSF) for future EU research and innovation funding. This is the interim conclusion based on over 470 responses received so far to the consultation launched by the Commission with its February 2011 Green Paper. Nearly all respondents stress the importance of simplifying procedures for applying for funding and accounting for its use. The CSF will cover funding currently provided through the Framework Programme for Research (FP7), the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP) and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) (IP/11/138 and MEMO/11/76). Over 420 completed online questionnaires have so far been received and over 50 position papers have been posted and can be read online by anyone interested. Many more responses are expected as stakeholders still have until 20 May 2011 to respond. 28 500 people from 134 countries have visited the consultation web site: http://ec.europa.eu/research/csfri/index_en.cfm
