ICT for Energy Efficiency
Policy and Research
The EU has committed itself to expanding the use of renewable energies, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing energy efficiency by 2020.
On its side, the European Commission has acknowledged that, by enabling substantial gains in energy efficiency, ICT-based innovations may provide one of the potentially most cost-effective means to help Member States achieve the 2020 targets.
For this reason a Recommendation [C(2009) 7604] has been adopted by the Commission and many project focused on both Buildings and Grids sectors have been funded by the FP7 and the CIP (ICT-PSP) Work Programmes.
