Galileo Programme

Information Day

Brussels, Tuesday 13th July 1999
Centre A. Borschette, (10h30 - 16h00)
Rue Froissart, 36

Following the approval by the EC and the ESA ministerial councils of the Galileo Programme initiatives, the programme has now formally entered in the Definition Phase, which will run until the end of 2000.

By the end of this Definition Phase we will need to have information necessary to decide on whether to go-ahead with the Implementation Phase of the programme. This decision will be based on: detailed data and service definition, system architecture, convergence with the EGNOS programme, implementation schedules, cost-benefit analysis, scope for public-private partnership, and proposals for management structure.

In order to fulfil these challenging objectives, EC and ESA have drawn up a comprehensive programme of activities respectively within the frame of the EC 5th Framework Programme and the ESA GalileoSat project.

To help launch these activities, the EC and ESA are hosting a joint information day, open to all those interested from industry and other related sectors. The objective of the Information Day is to inform participants of the overall schedule of activities, the actions planned for these two programmes, and the methodology for the final report of the definition phase.
