In order to help proposers to prepare proposals for the 1st call of the Key Action "Sustainable Mobility and Intermodality" of the Thematic Programme "Competitive and Sustainable Growth", DG VII is organising an Information Day to take place on 15 March 1999 in Brussels.

Interested parties will receive all the necessary administrative information in order to be able to prepare a proposal. In addition, the responsible scientific officers of the European Commission will present all tasks of the work programme open in this 1st Call. The event will not only provide first hand information on the contents of the call for proposals but also provides a perfect platform for networking.

The capacities of the meeting rooms (ca. 800 places) will make it necessary to limit participation and registrations will therefore be handled on a first come first served basis. For practical information please see the registration form and its attachment.

The event will start with a plenary session for all participants presenting the move from FP4 to FP5, participation rules and general issues relating to the new Key Action. The afternoon will feature five parallel sessions clustering tasks of the main thematic priorities of the Key Action. Participants have to indicate their choice of parallel session upon registration. The total budget available for this call is approx. ? 90 million.

The five parallel sessions are the following:

1. Socio-economic scenarios for mobility of people and goods (ca. 10 tasks)

This includes tasks covering a) quantitative tools for decision-making (e.g. methodologies for data collection), b) driving forces in transport (e.g. logistics) and c) policies for sustainable mobility.
2. Safety, Security and Human Factors (ca. 10 tasks)

This includes tasks covering aspects of safety, security and human factors in single modes of transport as well as cross modal aspects (e.g. safety assessment, safety technologies, training etc.).
3. Transport Infrastructure and Means (ca. 10 tasks)

This includes tasks covering aspects of transport infrastructure (e.g. infrastructure maintenance and management) and transport means (e.g. better integration of individual transport means in the transport system). All modes of transport are addressed.
4. Environment (ca. 5 tasks) This includes tasks covering environmental issues (e.g. emissions, noise reductions etc.). All modes of transport are addressed.
5. Traffic Management Systems and Transport and Mobility Services (ca. 15 tasks)
