Growth Thematic Networks
"Why Thematic Networks"
Thematic Network activities under the Growth Programme are considered to be of key importance for several reasons. Firstly, networking helps to reduce the fragmentation of research in the European Union. Secondly, it is a highly cost effective method of linking the research activities carried out in different places in Europe. It is also effective in helping to achieve a critical mass with regard to European research efforts and in increasing awareness by bringing the main stakeholders with common interest in Research together.
"Experience so far"
- Thematic Networks were initiated under the 4th Framework Programme when one hundred networks were set up. Thematic Networks have continued to be financed under FP5 and, altogether over 3400 industrial research partners have been involved so far. There will be an even greater emphasis on networking activities under the New Framework Programme supporting the European Research Area.
- Thematic Networks retained for negotiation or already in receipt of funding under the current FP5 Growth Programme (KA1 and MAT).(1)
