3. European Union policies

3.1. R&D Policies

Converting R&D efforts into tangible benefits for society is high on the agenda of European policy makers. By exploiting R&D results, European businesses can gain competitive advantage in world marketplaces, win better market shares, and achieve growth. The process is one of the main keys to solving the challenges of achieving sustainable economic development and reducing unemployment in Europe. It is particularly important in ensuring that Europe attains, or retains, a leading role in new technologies that will be the foundation of future economic activity.

Understanding European policies is strategic. These policies concern researchers and scientists who are working on tomorrow's technologies. They also concern the majority of European businesses whether large or small. Ultimately they concern every European citizen, as we are all increasingly affected by technological developments in our daily lives. CORDIS supports this process through its services.
