Research Training Networks

Guided Tour

4. How should I/We prepare a Network Proposal?

For Research Training Networks

Please note that the information presented here is now for reference purposes only, as the funding of projects through the Fifth Framework is no longer possible, it being superseded by the Sixth Framework Programme.

The proposal co-ordinator is responsible for the internal management and administration of the proposal and for submitting it to the Commission.

Proposals for Research Training Networks must be made using the special Forms for Networks. These can be found as an annex in the Guide for Proposers which also contains notes for completing the various parts.

On the form, it is necessary to indicate the call identifier - this is the code given in the text of the call for proposals. The call identifier for the first call was 'IHP-RTN-99-1'. For the second and final call for this activity in the Fifth Framework programme, the call identifier was IHP-RTN-00-2.

Applicants must prepare their proposals in the format of the appropriate Proposal Form. To assist in this, the Commission has prepared the software package ProTool (Proposal Preparation Tool) which is available at the Fifth Framework Programme Website at /fp5/protool/.

ProTool helps applicants to prepare the administrative and technical information of a proposal in conformity with the appropriate Proposal Form. Please, check on the above web site for updates of the description of ProTool.

ProTool includes help-texts and references, as well as assistance in making the forms complete and consistent. Its use supports applicants as well as the Commission services with high quality and efficient entry of administrative data.

Applicants may then send their proposal in on paper or electronically to the address indicated in the Guide for Proposers.

For Young Researchers

Young pre- and post-doctoral researchers seeking an appointment within a network are not required to prepare a proposal for the Commission. They will be able to participate once a proposal has been accepted by the Commission and a contract has been placed with the Co-ordinators' institute.

A brief summary of the new Research Training Network will appear on this website together with their associated vacancies. Young pre- and post-doctoral researchers can then respond to the vacancy notice or contact directly the Co-ordinator of any Network he/she is interested in.
