Welcome to the world of Science and Technology Indicators for the European Research Area (STI-ERA). These web pages include current publications about indicators, ongoing projects on the development of new indicators, calls for proposals and studies, links to databases etc.

These web pages were developed by the Unit "Competitiveness, Economic Analysis, Indicators" of the Research DG of the European Commission and are currently managed by the Unit: Coordination of Research Policies (M2).

Our aim is to develop and provide indicators for the European Research Area (ERA). Current projects within ERA are the regular series of 'Key Figures', allowing for benchmarking research policies and managing projects belonging to the ASSIST programme under the 6th Framework Programme. We work also in liaison with EUROSTAT and the relevant OECD groups.

On this web site, we try to provide you with data on particular S&T indicators for the ERA in various ways. The interactive map will give you an overview of recent data for S&T indicators such as numbers of researchers per workforce, investment in R&D, the output in publications and patents, share of knowledge related employment among others. On the ERA scoreboard web site you get also tables per indicators for most recent years and for the countries available.

You can also find a number of research reports that are the results of our funding activities. The previously internal publication series 'INDINEWS' is also available, as well as a number of researcharticles of EC staff. Most of them can be downloaded via pdf.

For further information about S&T indicators, we added a list of institutions either providing data or dealing with data and indicators in one way or the other.
