SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS

1997 Picture Coding Symposium

10-12 September 1997

Berlin, Germany

PCS is the premier international forum devoted specifically to picture coding. For more than two decades the International Picture Coding Symposium has provided the meeting place for the picture coding community: industry, research, academia and users. In 1997 PCS will be held in Berlin, Germany in the week prior to the International Workshop on Audio-visual Services over Packet Networks in Aberdeen, U.K. Prospective authors are asked to submit for review 3 copies of a 1000 word abstract of their paper. Two types of presentation will be used, oral and poster. About 20 minutes will be allotted to each oral presentation, including discussion. Overhead projector, 35 mm slide projector, and most common videotape formats such as VHS and D1 can be accommodated. Authors are encouraged to use these facilities to demonstrate their results.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

- Human observer/psychophysics - Very high resolution imaging and processing

- Feature extraction and picture processing - Joint video-audio processing, coding and representation

- Motion estimation and object segmentation - Coding for database applications

- Coding for still and moving pictures - Error protection and resilience

- Coding of stereo and multiview images/sequences - Joint source and channel coding

- Content-based and object-oriented coding - Virtual reality and telepresence

- Modelling and synthetic coding - Media transform (image animation by voice and text)

- Hybrid natural synthetic coding - Implementation architectures and VLSI

In submitting a paper, please take into account the following summary of deadlines:
