CSELT was founded in Turin in 1964 and is the STET Group's Company for study, research, experimentation and qualification in the field of Telecommunications and Information Technology.
Today CSELT has a leading role on the national and international scene by taking part in co-operative research programmes (Italian Research Programmes, ACTS, Telematics, EURESCOM) and also taking part in standardisation groups (ITU, ETSI, T1M1, DAVIC, NM Forum, TINA, ISO, ATM Forum).
CSELT is involved in 40 ACTS Projects.
CSELT is playing a Co-ordinator role in the following ACTS Projects: MULTICUBE, RAINBOW, STORMS, SOMMIT and ATMAN.
CSELT - Centro Studi e Laboratori Telecomunicazioni - see http://www.cselt.it - was founded in Turin in 1964. It is the STET Group's Company for study, research, experimentation and qualification in the field of Telecommunications and Information Technology - see http://www.stet.it/ for STET.
There are 1200 employees (of whom more than 65% are university graduates), and CSELT has achieved such a high level of expertise as to be able to guarantee both rapid and high quality results for research and planning support, assessment and qualification of equipment, network and services. CSELT is actively involved in the implementation of the Information Society whilst working to ensure a maximum efficiency of infrastructures and services available at present.
CSELT's activities cover these fields:
Narrow-band Public Network
Customer Services and Applications
Mobile Services
Network Management and OSS
High-speed Networks and Services
Transmission Network
Optical Systems
Satellites and Radio Links
Quality and conformance testing
These are carried out within these Research Areas:
Switching and Network Services - see http://www.cselt.it
Network Planning and Management - see http://www.cselt.it
Mobile Services and Radio - see http://www.cselt.it
End-User Services - see http://www.cselt.it
Transmission and Optical Technologies - see http://www.cselt.it
These concepts best describe CSELT's vision of services:
technology makes it possible
the market makes it happen
the usability makes it work.
In over thirty years of activities, CSELT has moved from a national scenario to a global one, opening up onto new competitive market opportunities with a "time to market" view.
CSELT works in close collaboration with universities, scientific and cultural organisations.

CSELT research projects are conceived and developed in a variety of sophisticated laboratories, ranging from opto-electronics to service usability and simulation of environmental impact. In CSELT labs you are able to re-create the complete telecommunications chain, from network design to service delivery and usage.
These facilities are:
LAP (Accredited Testing Laboratory) - see http://www.cselt.it
