EUROMED NETWORK '98 CONFERENCE

The Role of Internet and the World Wide Web in Developing the Euro-Mediterranean Information Society, March 4-7, Nicosia, Cyprus

A conference on the Euro-Mediterranean Information Society organised in the framework of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership will take place in Hilton Hotel, Nicosia, Cyprus, March 4-7 1998. The event is hosted by the University of Cyprus (UCY) with the support of Ministry of Communication & Works - Cyprus and the European Commission - DG IB, III, XIII. It will be assisted by ERCIM (European Research Consortium for Mathematics & Informatics), CYTA (Cyprus Telecommunications Authority), the Cyprus Government Planning Bureau and the Cyprus Department of Data Processing Services.

This conference is a direct follow up of the Rome Ministerial Conference which was held in May 1996, where the Ministers from European and Mediterranean countries gathered and decided that a specific conference on the potential of the Internet and the World Wide Web within the Euro-Mediterranean partnership was required. The need to further strengthen the international cooperation in the field of global networks, such as the Internet, has been recently re-actualized by the Bonn Ministerial Conference in July 1997. The Cyprus Conference aims to be the embodiment of these two calls for stronger international cooperation.

The focus of this conference will be to activate all available regional, financial, human and intellectual capital in order to help the Euro-Mediterranean region get onto the Net.

The conference will be organised around four key elements:

All themes relevant to Internet, the World Wide Web and the Information Society, including but not limited to the following will be discussed at the conference: SEEKING PARTNERS FOR NEW OR EXISTING PROJECTS
