West meets East - in Helsinki
Auditorium, Wednesday 24.11.1999, IST Helsinki
| Have you ever thought of collaborating with the Russians? No, this isn't the start of a spy thriller but the chance to find out about co-operation within the IST Programme. ENRIN is a project funded by the European Commission to improve the participation in the IST programme by the ten regions of Russia. The main reason for the poor level of co-operation is the simply the lack of contacts. Institutions are just not aware of the wealth of expertise that is out there, just waiting for collaboration. Russia has many strengths in the IT sector. The objective of ENRIN is to Enhance co-operation between European and Russian industry through Regional Information Nodes (RINs). |
These Information Nodes have been established with the support of regional governments to facilitate the participation of Russian IT-RTD organisations in the Fifth Framework. The RINs are developing an inventory of RTD capability which can be used for partner searches. There is a dossier of interesting projects and expertise for each region, and the RIN staff are there to help. The Russian Hour took place on Wednesday afternoon in the main auditorium. The session was introduced by Erik Habers of CEC DG XIII.
