Companies and other organisations were invited to participate by the European Commission or (for the "Meeting Austria" zone) by the Austrian Ministry of Science and Transport.

The 3000 square metre Exhibition included:

• presentations of leading-edge technologies and products stemming from work undertaken in the ACTS, Esprit, info2000/MLIS and Telematics Applications programmes and the ISPO initiative, plus demonstrations of the outcome and potential of take-up, demonstration and technology transfer actions;
• the European IT Prize and EuroPrix MultiMedia Art Prize finalists;
• a cybercafé in the style of a Viennese coffee-house (designed by the Ars Electronica Center);
• a series of Central and Eastern European showpoints.

The topics covered include medical applications; satellite applications; new interfaces; wearable computers; simulation in engineering; Internet security; education and culture; interactive multimedia systems; management and control systems; speech and sound systems; virtual reality; and entertainment and broadcasting applications.
