This newsletter is intended to provide updated information on the activities organised in Networked Media Systems and Home Platforms for rich media communications in the IST (Information Society Technologies) research program of the European Commission.

IST Program: Latest News and Information

Button Report on the results of the first annual technical review of the IST projects in the field of Networked Audio-visual Systems. The report provides an analysis of the major research themes in the area, and highlights some of the major achievement over the past year of work. It also provides a profiling of the research activities and the projects of the unit after one year of existence in terms of their research strategy and further identifies future research needs in the networked audio-visual sector.

Button On 6 April 2005 the European Commission announced its proposals for the 7th Framework Programme (FP7) for EU research. It is accompanied by a Communication entitled 'Building the ERA of knowledge for growth' setting out the policy objectives. A Competitiveness and Innovation framework Programme (CIP) is also proposed grouping all Community actions in the field of innovation and competitiveness.

Button The Networked Audiovisual Systems unit organises a consultation of all interested sector actors, the goal of which is to define R&D challenges addressing the networked audio-visual sector needs and EU priorities for collaborative projects supported under the ICT priority of the Seventh Framework Programme (2007- 2013).

The authors of the most interesting and relevant contributions to the consultation will be invited to discuss their views at an ensuing workshop planned in October 2005. DEADLINE for the consultation is 30 JUNE 2005.

Button Proceedings of the one day workshop entitled “Towards reaching consensus on Digital Rights Management” organised by the European Commission on the 6th April, 2005.

 

Button The European Commission has adopted a Communication on Accelerating the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting.

Button A European HDTV Conference is being organised by the Luxembourg Presidency in collaboration with the European Commission. The conference will be held in Luxembourg on 7 June 2005.

Button CoNEXT conference in the area of future networking technologies, organised by the Network of Excellence E-NEXT, Toulouse, France 24-27 October 2005

 

Button The Call for Papers for the Broadband Europe 2005 event is announced. Broadband Europe 2005 will take place in Bordeaux, France from 12-14 December 2005. The conference is an opportunity to present research results of all issues pertaining to the offering of audio-visual services over broadband networks as well as inside the home network.
