This newsletter is intended to provide updated information on the activities organised in Networked Media Systems and Home Platforms for rich media communications in the IST (Information Society Technologies) research program of the European Commission.

The Commission proposes a new strategic framework, i2010 – European Information Society 2010, laying out broad policy orientations. It promotes an open and competitive digital economy and emphasises ICT as a driver of inclusion and quality of life.
More than 50 contributions were received for the on-line consultation carried out by the Networked Media Systems unit, to define R&D challenges addressing the networked audio-visual sector needs and EU priorities for collaborative projects supported under the ICT priority of the 7th Framework Programme (2007-2013).
All the public contributions to the consultation are now available.
The most interesting and relevant contributions to the consultation will be discussed at an ensuing workshop planned on 6 & 7 October 2005.
The Radio Spectrum Policy Group (RSPG) has decided to issue a document for public comment on Wireless Access Platforms for Electronic Communications Services (WAPECS). Comments received, from both Member States and other interested parties, will be considered in developing an RSPG Opinion on WAPECS aiming at developing a draft Opinion for consideration by the RSPG at its next meeting in late November 2005. The deadline for responses is the 15 September 2005

The Broadband Europe 2005 Conference will take place in Bordeaux, France from 12-14 December 2005. The conference provides a forum for the presentation of research results on all issues pertaining to the provision of audio-visual services over broadband networks as well as inside the home network.
A workshop on Economic Business Models & Technical Key Aspects of the e-Media Chain will be organized by MediaNet on 22-23 September 2005 at the CERNA Research Center in Paris.
