- Workshop: Concertation in FP6
- An important aspect of FP6 programme implementation is the inter-project collaboration. The mechanisms to realise such collaboration need to be well thought early enough in order to be effective.
The objective of this workshop is to give the opportunity to the co-ordinators of on-going FP5 projects and new FP6 proposals selected for negotiation to meet and openly discuss ways to achieve an efficient co-operation in the future.
IPs and NoEs may include similar mechanisms at project level. To avoid duplication of effort, the Concertation activities should be defined taking into account those mechanisms.
The experience on organising such co-operation, acquired within the FP5-IST area of Mobile/Wireless/Satellite Technologies, could provide a starting point for this discussion to set up the basis for defining concertation (PDF, 15.3KB) in the FP6-IST area of Communication Technologies.
At the last Concertation Meeting, most of the new Integrated Projects and Co-ordination Actions presented their views. At the present meeting contributions by NoE's, STREPS and remaining Integrated projects will complete the picture.

- Please note:
- The expenses incurred by participating to this meeting are not eligible for funding for the projects whose contracts are not "in force" at the time of the meeting.
- The participation in this meeting should not be regarded under any circumstance as a formal commitment by the Commission to give financial support to new FP6 projects as this depends on the satisfactory conclusion of contract negotiations.

- Workshop on System Architectures beyond 3G
- Chair: Ralf Toenjes
- Many emerging FP6 projects introduce new concepts for system architectures beyond 3G. On the other side the FP6 projects can build on findings from the FP5 projects in the SB3G cluster. To workshop will provide a forum to discuss synergies between new projects and to exploit the results from FP5 project findings for the emerging FP6 projects. During the meeting we will discuss requirements for future architectures, review current approaches and identify key challenges. These challenges can be topics for further workshops and cooperations between projects.

Discussion around the key issues concerning the Internet Infrastructure over the next 3-5 years. Some key issues are (not in priority order):
- Issues of IP and WLANs (eg. QoS)
- Issues of IP and 3G (the need for IPv6 is being questioned again in standards bodies)
- Ethernet in the first mile
- The closer integration of IP and optics (several sub bullet points can be opened here, but PONs, LAN-PHY, WAN-PHY and resource management would be relevant areas)
- Pure-IP-based DSL systems
- QoS support at the DSLAM - Anything going on with CATV ? (DSL and CATV are predicted to be 85% of the broadband access technologies by 2005)
- IP issues for satellites and HAPS
- IPv6
- Home Network infrastructures
Current and future project representatives are invited to brainstorm the above idea (and maybe add topics).
