Activities
ARTEMIS (Advanced Research & Technology for Embedded Intelligent Systems) was started in 2004 when leading European companies and research institutions joined forces to set it up. The ARTEMIS Technology Platform is a public/private partnership that aims to develop and implement a common European strategy for achieving global leadership in Embedded Systems.
Research Focus
Embedded Systems Design looks at technologies (methodologies and tools) that can master the growing complexity of the systems while, at the same time, reducing development costs and time to market. Designing embedded systems with guaranteed functionality and quality at an acceptable cost is a major challenge. Research topics include architectures, hardware-software co-design and implementation through new concepts, methods and software tools.
Cooperating Objects are networked embedded systems which allow intelligence to being deeply embedded in physical objects that are connected seamlessly. Objects can be as simple as a sensor or as complex as a portable device, or even an entire car or building. Research work covers generic technologies, such as models and architectures, as well as novel components such as APIs, middleware, operating systems or secure kernels.
Advanced control for real-time systems becomes challenging as they become increasingly interconnected and dynamic. The emphasis is on hybrid control systems and complex distributed control.
