The series of pages linked from here are designed to help you identify research opportunities arising from and complementing the body of projects currently executed within FET. These opportunities represent either a new research challenge or a hard problem whose solution would impact several running programs. In other cases, they are associated with a key issue either arising now for the first time or acquiring a hitherto elusive importance.
Any proposal addressing one or more such issues can be submitted to the open scheme. It goes without saying that proposals will be evaluated on the standard criteria for the open scheme where quality is of the essence. A proposal that addresses poorly an idea in the list will not be funded. This list presents ideas that are considered relevant based on the current status. It is by no means restrictive nor exhaustive: proposals addressing any other interesting and challenging ideas will be treated on exactly the same footing.
We hope, nevertheless, that this list may be helpful in getting proposals that complement well other proposals or ongoing projects. In particular we hope that this list will help in bringing together different research communities, which traditionally might not consider a tight collaboration. So it may be worth your while to browse beyond your own direct area of interest. Your research or ideas may be relevant to the most unexpected domains. Titles (and whenever possible pointers to more detailed information) of on-going FET projects in each of the domains will be mentioned in order to give an overview of what is already happening at the EU level (this will be updated as more information on the projects can be released).
