The 2004 edition of the most important European Information Society Technologies (IST) event is organised under the EU's Dutch Presidency by the European Commission in partnership with the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. The event will include a conference, an exhibition of research results and networking facilities for the about 4000 participants. The overall themes are "People" and "Economy". Also at the conference there will be a number of networking sessions relating to Grids further details of these will be announced on the conference website when they are finalised.

12th Global Grid Forum

Twelfth meeting of the Global Grid Forum whose primary objective is to promote and support the development, deployment, and implementation of Grid technologies and applications via the creation and documentation of "best practices" - technical specifications, user experiences, and implementation guidelines.
The GGF12 programme has two parts. First, it will provide the usual forum for technical managers, product strategists, and academic researchers to engage in the technological issues of grid computing via working and research groups and through workshops and tutorials. Additionally, a plenary programme with the theme of "Grids Deployed in the Enterprise" will also be offered on 20-21 September. This latter programme is aimed at senior management from enterprises who are exploring the viability of grid computing for their organisation.

European Grid Technology Days 2004: IST - FP6 Grid projects launch and concertation

The event that is organised by the European Commission in close collaboration with the GRIDSTART and NEXTGRID projects will consist of a public launch of all FP6 IST Grid projects on September 15 followed by a two days internal concertation meeting with closed technical workshops led by project participants. The new EU Grid Technology research initiative will be exhaustively presented, debated and kicked off.

The Information Society Technologies event was held in Milan from October 2-4, in partnership with SMAU, one of Europe's largest ICT events. Grid technologies featured heavily in the event programme and there was a 'Grid village' which featured several ongoing IST Grid projects. A special brochure on Grids entitled "Grids: challenges and opportunities for business & industry" (PDF, 138KB) was prepared for the IST 2003 event by unit F2 of DG information Society. At the IST 2003 event a Key Note speech and 6 workshops were related to Grids.

In March 2003 Unit F2 of DG INFSO set up an expert group of visionaries in the Grid domain (as recommended in the conclusions from the IST Grid workshop held in Brussels on Jan 29-30 2003). A key aim of the Expert Group is to identify research priorities for future Grid technologies within the Sixth Framework Programme. An article on the setting up of this expert group was published on CORDIS news website on 7 March 2003.
