IST Call 5 Preparatory Workshop on "Advanced Grid Technologies, Systems & Services"
Date: 31 January - 1 February 2005
Location: Hotel Carrefour de l'Europe, Grasmarkt 110, B-1000 Brussels
Parallel session on "Semantic Grid"
Monday January 31st 2005
Session organiser: Eoghan O'Neill
Abstract
The ongoing convergence between Grids, Web Services and the Semantic Web is a fundamental step towards the realisation of a common service-oriented architecture empowering people to create, provide, access and use a variety of intelligent services, anywhere, anytime, in a secure, cost-effective and trustworthy way. The path to addressing these needs involves overcoming significant challenges in terms of not just technological development but also cross-community collaboration. Europe however is well-positioned thanks to its established competencies in Grids, ontologies, web services, semantic web and agent technologies. This workshop will analyse the state of the art in semantic web, semantic grid and related technologies, and identify specific needs of Advanced Grid Technologies, Systems and Services as well as mechanisms for improving collaboration between relevant communities as a means to maximising the level and impact of future technical breakthroughs.
