We promote research in the domains of human-computer interaction and multilingual systems. What we want are natural and easy to use interfaces that bring together the different human modalities of communication and /or integrate multilingual capabilities. The aim of humans-computer interaction is to "make it simple" and develop easy to use interfaces that are able to render human-machine interaction as natural, responsive and intuitive as any interaction between humans. The aim of multilingual systems is for citizens to be able to access, receive and use information in their own language. In addition, the new multilingual technologies must be integrated in to cross-lingual information systems. We, moreover, aim to strengthening Europe's linguistic infrastructure.
The unit also manages a portfolio of innovation projects selected during the 5th Framework Programme. Topics covered include agro-food, new manufacturing technologies in traditional industry sectors, water, waste and energy utilities, as well as the aggregation of technology transfer services for small companies.
