Activities
The activities of the unit 'Information market' are focused towards the objective of making digital content accessible to all through policies that support better access, use and preservation of digital content.
- The unit implements the Community strategy on Public Sector Information (PSI), in particular the transposition of Directive 2003/98/EC for the re-use of PSI.
- In the framework of the i2010 initiative on digital libraries, the unit implements the Community policy on digitisation, on line accessibility and digital preservation with a view to making European information resources (books, historical records, archive films etc.) easier and more interesting to use in an online environment.
- The unit is also charged with the analysis of the information market with a special view to the impact of emerging information and media technologies.
- Further, the unit follows the development of policy and regulatory issues affecting digital content, in particular intellectual property rights (copyrights, database protection, digital rights management). It acts as a contact point for the whole Directorate-General 'Information Society and Media' on intellectual property matters.
