Clusters

"Maximising Impact"

Context

In order to maximise the impact of the individual projects and the set of projects as a whole, projects have been grouped in technical areas (‘Clusters’) and co-operation between these projects in clusters is strongly encouraged.

The main objective of clustering is ‘to improve the performance of the individual projects in a given cluster by maximising the possibilities for interaction with other projects and stakeholders in the domain’.

Specifically the aims of a cluster are to:

  • Maximise technological, industrial and societal relevance
  • Foster standardisation, inter-operability, benchmarking and best practice
  • Facilitate assessment and technical validation of results
  • Create synergy with national research activities and other European programmes (including EUREKA)
  • Stimulate user awareness
  • Identify common dissemination activities and routes for commercialisation
  • Stimulate exploitation
  • Identify future RTD requirements

The present brochure gives a description of the clusters and projects currently running within the domain of Applications relating to Health. For each cluster the importance of the work undertaken and the critical role of research in IST is highlighted. Each cluster is illustrated by actual projects giving a flavour of how technology can be used for the benefit of the citizen and society as a whole.
