Promoting Privacy-Enhancing Technologies

The action builds on and leverages the work carried out by of the JRC as part of its institutional role. Two main activities have been implemented. The former has involved organising thematic workshops with all stakeholders, precisely on:

  • "PET and Privacy Practice" on 5 June 2001, organised in collaboration with EICTA;
  • "Privacy and Identity in Information Society"1 on 4-5 October 2001, organised with the support of the JRC;
  • "Privacy and Identity in the Information Society: systemic risks"1 on 5-6 February 2002 organised with the support of the JRC.

The last concerned the development and animation of the e-Forum on Privacy in Information Society as a portal for technical awareness, and the promotion of the exchange of experiences and consolidation of best practice on the deployment of privacy enhancing technologies.

As part of the Best Practice Action in Call 7, we aim to foster awareness and promote best practice, in particular of SMEs, on security issues via hands-on experiments that would deploy technologies to improve security practices, ensure privacy, prevent and protect from attacks, etc.
