Co-operation with EU member states and associated countries

The Working Party on Education and Trainingunder the Information Society Technologies Committee, was active during 2000 – 2001. It produced recommendations for dissemination, for co-operation on national and European levels, and for future research and technological development. The Working Party also produced an overview ofin the field of research into Education and Training Applications in the 31 FP5 countries.

Co-operation with other countries

With the United States, the EU-US co-operation in eLearning was agreed in 1998 aiming at identifing areas and methods for co-operation for the mutual benefits on both programme and project levels.

In Octover 1999, the European Commission launched the Asia IT&C Programme in order to co-finance mutually beneficial partnerships in the area 'Information Technology and Communication' between Europe and Asia. The range of activities are: society, e-commerce, education, transport, health, agriculture, tourism, i-manufacturing

The EU-MEDIS programme supportsco-operation within the Euro-Mediterranean region. It aims at developping the 'Euro-Mediterranean Information Society' by interconnecting research communities. Pilot projects resulting from the first call (January 2001) cover five application areas: education, e-commerce, health, tourism and culture.

With the aim to reinforce the partnership between the European Union and Latin America, the European Commission promotes the co-operation programme 'ALliance for the Information Society', @lis). The first call for proposals (2002) included four thematic areas: e-local governance; education and cultural diversity; e-public health; e-inclusion.

Co-operation with China started with theevent China-EU Cooperation Forum on Information Society. It took place from 16-20 April 2002 in Beijing and was sponsored jointly by the European Commission and by theChinese Ministries of Science and Technology andof Information Industry.
