Mission Statement

Within the context of the IST Programme, Unit "Multimedia Applications for Education and Training" contributes to the research, development and demonstration of technology enhanced learning applications and services in order to promote personalised lifelong learning for all. It assists the creation of innovative solutions based on information and communication technologies enabling individuals, industry and organisations in general to acquire knowledge, skills and competencies required to exploit the opportunities of the knowledge society. By doing so it supports main EU policies underpinning the development of an inclusive information and knowledge society, such as eEurope and the realisation of the European Research Area and European Education Area.

Objectives

  • Fostering research, development and demonstration of technology enhanced learning so as
  • to extend access to personalised learning services and contents independent of distance, pace and time,
  • to improve the learning process and the efficiency of learning,
  • to facilitate the transfer and sharing of knowledge and skills,

in order to meet the needs of schools, universities, companies and organisations in general and the lifelong learning needs of individuals alike.

  • Contributing to the development of EU related policies, such as eEurope, the European Research Area and European Education Area with regard to technology enhanced learning services.
