E-content in line with eEurope

E-content is a European Union programme to support the production, use and distribution of European digital content, and to promote linguistic diversity on global networks. It also achieves a third, eEurope, objective which is to stimulate the use and take-up of the internet across Europe. The programme is centred on the need of European businesses and citizens to access and use high-quality content suited to their needs.

This four-year programme runs from 2001 to 2005 and has a budget of 100 million euro.

KA3 contributes to the technology base of this market-oriented EC programme, which is the successor programme to INFO2000 and MLIS. The e-content programme is based on three action lines:

  • Improving access to and expanding use of public sector information;
  • Enhancing content production in a multilingual and multicultural environment; and
  • Increasing the digital content market dynamism.

What does it offer?

Financial support to:

  • Projects involving multinational and cross-sector partnerships;
  • Accompanying measures addressing best practice, awareness and dissemination; and
  • Market studies providing prospective views, challenges, opportunities, and market observation.

Who should participate?

The programme emphasises close co-operation between public and private entities. Specific interest groups encouraged to contribute to this programme are:

  • Public institutions, cultural establishments;
  • Information companies, publishers, content creators;
  • Packagers and distributors;
  • Providers of language services and solutions;
  • Internet service providers and suppliers;
  • Capital market enablers;
  • Rights trading players; and New market entrants; and
  • Other interested or related parties.
