The Educational Multimedia Task Force 1995-2001 Integrated Research Effort on Multimedia in Education and Training, WORD, June 2001
Technological landscapes for tomorrow's cultura l economy (DIGICULT)
DIGICULT is a strategic study on the state of the art of use, development and research in information and communication technologies for the cultural (and associated) sectors in Europe. The objective is to provide a clear set of action recommendations for cultural institutions Europe-wide. In order to achieve this goal, it will provide an in-depth analysis of the state of the art of technologies, content, cultural services and applications as well as (user) demands and policies in the sector. In this sense it has launched the DIGICULT with the objectives of making more transparent and opening up the consulting process by giving cultural experts from large to small cultural players the chance to express their personal opinion. The study is carried out by Salzburg Research together with a consortium of nine highly acknowledged European cultural organisations. Final results will be published at the end of 2001. See leaflet.

BRAINSTORMING: Digital libraries research for access to cultural and scientific resources.
This meeting, organised by the EC on 24 March 2000, had the objectives to identify emerging research trends and issues in technologies and services for advanced/innovative access to cultural and scientific resources.

Representatives and experts from the Member States gathered in Lund (Sweden) on the 4th of April 2001 to identify ways in which ?a coordination mechanism for digitisation programmes across the Member States? could be put in place to stimulate European content in global networks (Objective 3(d) of the eEurope Action Plan). The meeting, which was arranged by the Cultural Heritage Applications Unit and hosted under the auspices of the Swedish Presidency, began by endorsing the findings of an earlier preparatory meeting of EU Experts (Luxembourg, November 2000).

New Opportunities for Language Technology in Multilingual eMarkets [Word, 57 KB]
Demonstrates a number of ways in which human language technology (HLT) can play a vital role in enabling the emerging eBusiness market.

Human Language Technologies are particularly adapted to the growing needs of eBusiness sites for appropriate interfaces, intelligent knowledge retrieval and management, and especially radical multilinguality (described in Dr. Rose Lockwood 's presentation - Radical Multilinguality: Applications for HLT in Global E-business [Powerpoint, 510 KB]).
