10.30 Registration and Coffee 11.00 Welcome and Introduction - Vinod Kumar
11.05 The objectives and methodology of WWRI and WSI - Fiona Williams 11.20 A Reference Model for the Wireless World - Norbert Niebert
11.45 Where are we going? Evolution of the wireless industry to 2010 - Ross Pow This sector research focused on how the wireless market might develop over the years up to 2010. This was based on understanding the current position of the mobile telecoms industry and assessing the future impact of various drivers of change. The outputs of the research are three scenarios that anticipate the uncertainties around societal, business and regulatory trends that will drive the demand for wireless communications over the next few years. These scenarios form an input into identifying the technological research and development priorities that need to be initiated by the wireless community. 12.45 Lunch 14.15 The status of wireless research - Werner Mohr and Rahim Tafazolli In order to establish a road map on evolution of wireless related technologies, data was collected by Work Package 2 team, through a specifically designed Fact Sheet. Different sources of information included European and National Research Projects, WWRF work ie BoV 2001. The outcome was clustered in nine high level, closely inter linked family of topics. The presentation will include a set of example roadmaps prepared by WP2. 15.00 How to get there - gap analysis - Vinod Kumar and Pierre Chevillat The third Work Package is in the process of identifying relevant research areas and their respective priorities for the future Wireless World. This work makes full use of the three scenarios mentioned above, the Technology roadmaps developed by WP2 and it takes into account information from other sources (ITU WP 8F, WWRF BoV 2001 and open litterature). A few examples of such research areas of relevance to the wider ICT community (including mobile communications, broadcast industry, content providers etc) will be outlined during the presentation. 15.45 Discussion and conclusions 16.00 Close of Workshop (Reminder of opportunities to participate in WWRF and next steps in WWRF) - Mikko Uusitalo
