AsIsKnown - A semantic-based knowledge flow system for the European home textiles industry
AsIsKnown represents a system designed for a non invasive, cross-sector development and management of trends. The aim is the identification of product combination trends in the European home textiles industry.
Impact
AsIsKnown worked on providing a system which enables the user to generate harmonised trend lines quicker, thus shortening the time-to-production. A generation of complete living environments allows to derivate trends with regard to combinations of different products. Their belief was that customisation of textile-based goods is a "path" to fight against counterfeiting and piracy.
Main innovation
AsIsKnown engaged in new pioneering research activities in various IT fields (ontologies, semantic web applications, data processing, combination and linking of different databases).
The main innovation of AsIsKnown was the complete support of a novel interorganisational business process via the use of semantic web components. A Common sense Ontology became a first attempt to build ontologies to be used in the home textiles industry. A Multimedia Ontology brought a new direction in the application of spatial ontologies.
AsIsKnown provided an industrial showcase for a semantic-based knowledge and content system for several services within the home textiles industry as the envisaged prototypes support the acquisition, modelling, sharing and use of information and knowledge about cross-sectoral trends.
