SEVENPRO - Semantic Virtual Engineering Environment for Product Design
SEVENPRO developed technologies and tools supporting deep mining of product engineering knowledge from multimedia repositories and enabling semantically enhanced 3D interaction with that knowledge in integrated engineering environments.
Impact
The project seeked to improve the process of product engineering and development in manufacturing and engineering companies, by means of semantically (ontology-based) supported acquisition, formalisation and management of product knowledge. Process improvements have been measured by criteria such as the time required for a product innovation, the level of company reuse of existing knowledge, and the reduction of engineering costs.
Main innovation
Main technical innovations brought by SEVENPRO are software modules allowing:
- semi-automatic semantic annotation of Multimedia design resources (CAD, ERP, Documents),
- automatic extraction of design patterns from engineering repositories (mainly CAD files),
- enabling semantically enhanced Virtual Reality (VR) interaction with product knowledge.
