Grids in Finance Workshop
Palermo (Italy)
It is likely that in the next decades financial institutions will increasingly compete on the efficient allocation of computing power by maintaining the current high- security standards. Since the Grid helps dealing with computationally intensive problems with distributed data, this technology is best suited for supporting the coming challenges of financial institutions. In Europe, production grid infrastructures like the EGEE, provide a platform for the testing and the deployment in real-world environments of finance applications like those provided by the Italian Egrid project. In this context the area of finance represents a very interesting one for the e-Infrastructure. The Grid in Finance 2006 - Workshop is intended to be an international forum for researchers from academia and industry in the area of Grid - based applications in finance. Researchers from Europe and the world are expected to attend the event.

eInfrastructures (Internet and Grids) - The new foundation for knowledge-based Societies
Rome, Italy
Following an event which took place earlier this year under the Greek Presidency of the EU addressing the issue of harmonisation of policies on the access and use of IT-infrastructures for Research in Europe (networking, computing, data storage etc), the Italian Presidency in collaboration with the European Commission (DG INFSO/F) is organising this new event to progress discussions on the above topic. Part of the activity during the event will also be the definition of a high-level committee of representatives from Networking and Grid national authorities in Europe (eInfrastructure Reflection Group). This group will aim at monitoring and supporting on a policy advisory level the creation and use of the eInfrastructure in Europe, as well as the strengthening of relations with the US Cyber-Infrastructure and other similar initiatives around the world. Participation in the event is by invitation only and it is expected to be attended by about 100 European, American and possibly Japanese experts in the field. EC participants : L. Rodriguez-Rosello, M. Campolargo and K. Baxevanidis.
