Accompanying Measure

This is an accompanying measure in the area of exploitation and dissemination of results of Telematics for Libraries projects

Call Topic(s)

Not applicable

Project description

EXPLOIT is an accompanying measure designed to promote the results of EU library projects (both FP3 and FP4) and to facilitate their take-up by the market of library and information systems. The activities foreseen include special events for raising awareness among professionals in CEE countries that will accede to the EU in coming years.

Organisational approach

More than 70 projects or other actions have been funded under the Telematics for Libraries Programme. EXPLOIT is enacted in two main phases.

Phase 1 - Self-assessment of projects, followed by analysis and clustering of results.

Phase 2 - Interlinked activities, including:

  • Development of presentations of results to be used at key events.
  • Establishing a European Web magazine and database of relevant European and national projects.
  • Conducting five exploitation workshops.

Key issues

The main issues being addressed are:

  • Dissemination and exploitation of project results.
  • Raising awareness of the benefit of pan-European co-operation among library and information professionals.
  • Liasing with all parties concerned (related projects, actions, groups, etc) in order to create synergy effects.

Actions and Results

Specific actions being undertaken in EXPLOIT include:

  • Analysis and clustering of project results.
  • Development of presentation modules.
  • Starting an electronic journal on the Web with a priority on inviting contributions from EU funded libraries projects and related projects.
  • Setting up a database of national and international library (and related) projects.
  • A series of Exploitation Workshops to be held in conjunction with major European events in the libraries and related sectors in EU countries (e.g. the Frankfurt Book Fair).
  • Facilitation of additional presentations at national events.

Impact

EXPLOIT will contribute to increasing the overall impact of the Telematics for Libraries programme both in EU/EEA member states and in CEE countries.

Expected outcomes include:

  • Extensions of Telematics for Libraries Programme projects and actions and wider take-up of results emerging from the programme.
  • Intensification of pan-European co-operation between libraries and related sectors.
  • Demonstrable debate within professional circles about the potential for implementing Libraries Programme results.
  • Interconnection and integration of developments at national level with those at European level.

On completion of this accompanying measure, exploitation activities could continue via the National Focal Points and other national experts who co-operated during EXPLOIT, using the infrastructure created herein.
