Pilot Integrated Projects Funded under FP5

Three pilot integrated projects, in the area of functional genomics relating to human health, have been awarded EUR 39.4 million, in total. These projects illustrate the scale and ambition of the large integrated projects that will be supported in FP6.

Following the same procedure adopted later in preparation for the first FP6 call, 'expressions of interest' were invited and assessed by an expert panel (see report) before deciding which topics to include in the call. A call for full proposals on five topics was then launched, followed by expert evaluation and selection of the following three projects:

Studies of European volunteer twins to identify genes involved in common disease
Website: http://www.genomeutwin.helsinki.fi

Understanding human disease through mouse genomics
Website: http://www.eumorphia.org

Structural Proteomics in Europe
Website: http://www.spineurope.org

A March 2002 Press release includes the project abstracts and an overview of the procedure by which they were selected.
