Marie Curie Excellence Awards (EXA) aim to give public recognition to outstanding past achievements of scientists who have reached a level of exceptional excellence in their given field. Researchers of any nationality are eligible, provided they have taken part in an EU training and mobility programme for a minimum of 12 months.
Researchers can nominate themselves or can be put forward by others. Up to five prizes of 50 000 each are awarded every year. The winners are selected by a prominent Grand Jury, and a special Awards Ceremony is held to honour them. They can use prize money freely, but they are expected to take part in public events to help improve the understanding of science and its role as a driver for economic growth, as well as to illustrate the attractions of a career in research.
