NEST Proposal Selection

NEST is following an innovative approach in the evaluation and selection of proposals with a number of important novelties for the framework programme, like:

  • For ADVENTURE and INSIGHT proposals, a two-stage submission and selection procedure starting with the assessment of 5-page outline proposals followed by the assessment of a reduced number of selected full proposals is applied. For PATHFINDER proposals, however, there is only one stage with the submission of full proposals.
  • A peer review system that is based on i) a limited set of evaluation criteria in the outline stage, ii) remote individual assessments followed by a scientific panel assessment giving final funding recommendations, iii) user-friendly and resource-efficient procedures.
  • A comprehensive feedback to applicants with an Evaluation Summary Report that contains all individual expert statements and provides a maximum of transparency to applicants.

For more information on the NEST Evaluation and Selection Procedure please consult the FP6 Guidelines on proposal evaluation and selection procedures, the NEST Guidance Notes for Evaluators and the NEST Independent Observers Reports (2004/1, 2004/2, 2005/1, 2005/2, 2005-PATH). The NEST Guidance Notes for Evaluators can be downloaded from the specific NEST call page.
