About the News Service
CORDIS News is a daily online news service provided by the European Union's official research and innovation information service, CORDIS. The News Service, staffed by an in-house team of journalists and editors, provides up-to-date and accurate coverage of a broad range of issues related to European research and innovation, with a particular focus on EU research and innovation policies and activities.
The CORDIS News Service is available in six languages: German, English, French, Italian, Polish and Spanish. Topics covered by CORDIS News include EU legislation and policies affecting research and innovation, European Commission proposals, calls for tender, calls for proposals, forthcoming events, publications, and the progress and results of R&D; programmes and projects. News on important individual subject areas, such as the Framework Programmes (FP6 and FP7), the Presidency of the EU and the Lisbon Strategy are brought together and linked from the home page in order to provide readers with a more structured overview of news they are interested in. Users are therefore free to choose whether they want to see an overview of the latest developments in all areas related to research, or whether they prefer a summary of recent news relevant to a particular topic. An extensive search function, an e-mail alert and an RSS feed complete the set of tools available to help users to stay up-to-date with EU research and innovation policies and activities. The daily CORDIS News Service also forms the basis for three regular publications providing further in-depth coverage of news related to research, development and innovation:
The research*eu family of publications compiles research news and scientific results in three publications: research*eu magazine, research*eu results magazine and research*eu focus.
- research*eu magazine is the European Commission’s research magazine, written by independent professional journalists. It presents and analyses projects, results and initiatives through which men and women are making a contribution towards scientific and technological excellence in Europe.
- research*eu results magazine provides regular updates on the research work of EU-funded projects, with a specific emphasis on the market-ready, exploitable technologies they have developed.
- research*eu focus is a magazine supplement, with each issue covering a specific topic of interest to researchers, policy-makers and other stakeholders in the research field. It features articles on EU policies, initiatives, programmes and projects related to research and technological development and their exploitation for the benefit of citizens.
Additionally, an archive of the CORDIS focus publications is available. CORDIS focus and its supplements, compiled updates on EU-funded research for more than 14 years and was integrated into the research*eu family of publications in 2008.
CORDIS Express is a weekly briefing on European research and innovation news delivered to your e-mail in-box. The service combines highlights of the week's news on European innovation and research with a summary of particularly important national or regional initiatives. It can also help to put innovators and researchers in touch with each other by directing users to CORDIS's dedicated Technology Marketplace and Partner Search services. A free subscription can be requested by registering with CORDIS.
CORDIS Wire is a platform for European innovation and research stakeholders to disseminate information and press releases about their own activities. Press releases can be submitted in any of three languages - English, French and German - via an online form.
CORDIS News welcomes press releases and suggestions for articles and topics to be covered by its in-house team of journalists. These can be sent by e-mail to the News team.
CORDIS News draws from a variety of information sources, including the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of the EU, national ministries and research organisations and official publications of the EU, including the Official Journal. Contributions are also made by the information services of relevant programmes themselves. Furthermore, a range of additional information sources is monitored. CORDIS News also features regular interviews with policy makers and members of the research and innovation community.
The CORDIS News Service is aimed at national and international companies, small and medium sized enterprises, research centres, scientists, university staff, writers and all those involved with, or interested in, European research and innovation activities and policy making. Each news item includes, where appropriate, document references and contact information, the dates and locations of events, closing dates for tenders and proposals, and other useful details.Last Updated: 2008-11-04
