JETSCREEN is a Horizon 2020 project (www.jetscreen-h2020.eu) which develops a screening and optimization platform for alternative fuels. The platform integrates distributed design tools and generic experiments that will assess the risks and benefits and optimize alternative fuels for a maximum energy per kilogram of fuel and a reduction of air polluting emissions. JETSCREEN is developing its screening and optimization framework based on a research methodology that starts with a fuel matrix encompassing so-called extreme fuels. In the tool development phase, the process-specific extreme fuels are explored experimentally then modelled. Quantitative results or qualitative assessments are expected depending on the level of maturity when predicting a fuel's impact on physical sub-processes, on the fuel system or the engine system. In the end, in the tool application phase, the tools are integrated into a screening workflow. Using this approach, JETSCREEN will provide fuel producers, air framers and aero-engine and fuel system OEMs with knowledge-based screening tools that will: - Streamline the alternative aviation fuel approval process - Assess the compatibility of fuel composition/properties with respect to the fuel system and the combustion system - Quantify the added value of alternative fuels - Optimize fuel formulation in order to attain the full environmental potential of synthetic and conventional fuels For almost three decades the European Aeronautics Days (Aerodays) has been the leading event in aviation research and innovation, mirroring the priorities and strategies set within the European Union Research Framework Programmes. The 8th edition of Aerodays (http://www.tandemaerodays19-20.eu/home/) builds on the achievements of Horizon 2020, the biggest EU research and innovation programme to date, and it is based on a new approach with two integrated events organized in Romania, in 2019, and Germany, in 2020. Coordinated under a synergic concept, TandemAEROdays19.20 these two events will provide a solid platform to share and review the latest developments in aeronautics and air transport across the European Union, further strengthening its leadership on a highly competitive and strategic international market. At Aerodays 2019 in Bucharest, May 27-30 JETSCREEN will showcase an interactive touchscreen presentation about the project, its ambitious objectives and mid-term results. Bastian Rauch and Patrick Le Clercq of coordinating institution DLR (German Aerospace Center, www.dlr.de/dlr/en) will answer visitors' questions and provide further information on the project and its methodology. Please come and visit us at the EC stand which is centrally located outside the Sala Cuza (main plenary room) on the first floor of the event venue, the Palace of Parliament (view map: http://www.tandemaerodays19-20.eu/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/first_floor.pdf).
